How to play Bloons Tower Defense

  1. Pick a tower, place it on grass

Tap a card in the bottom bar (or press 1-3), then tap any open grass to build. Towers cannot sit on the path itself.

  2. Know your four towers

Dart towers fire fast single shots, bomb towers deal splash damage around their target, and frost towers slow every balloon in range without popping anything.

  3. Read the balloon colors

Color equals toughness: red pops in one hit, blue in two, and so on up the rainbow. Tough balloons also drift faster, and each layer popped scores points.

  4. Guard your lives

Every balloon that escapes costs lives equal to its remaining strength, and twenty is all the garden has. A single leaked five-layer balloon hurts.

  5. Bank the wave bonus

Clearing a wave pays a cash bonus scaled to the wave number, plus score. The pause before the next wave is your building window.

What Bloons Tower Defense is like to play

Bloons Tower Defense on Free Games. They only need one gap in your defense.

Bloons Tower Defense is tower defense boiled down to its addictive core: a winding garden path, an endless parade of balloons marching along it, and your growing arsenal of towers determined to pop every last one before it floats off the far end. You start with pocket money and twenty lives. Dart towers are your cheap, reliable workhorses; bomb towers trade fire rate for splash damage that shreds tight clusters; frost towers slow everything in reach so the others can feast. Every escaped balloon costs lives equal to its strength, and stronger colors take multiple hits, so wave by wave the arithmetic tightens. Cash flows from every pop and every cleared wave, and where you spend it matters far more than how much you have: a corner tower that covers two path legs is worth three towers on a straightaway. The waves never stop coming and never stop growing, so a run ends only when the garden falls, and the score remembers how long you held it.

Where Bloons Tower Defense came from

Tower defense grew out of strategy-game custom maps in the 1990s and exploded into its own genre in the 2007 browser boom, when a wave of Flash games proved that placing towers against marching enemies was a complete game all by itself. The balloon-popping branch became the most beloved of all: bright targets, satisfying pops and a color-coded difficulty ladder made the genre readable to anyone in seconds while hiding surprisingly deep placement math underneath.

Bloons Tower Defense is our from-scratch tribute to that golden age of browser tower defense: four towers with honest trade-offs, one handcrafted path, endless scaling waves and a garden that reshuffles its balloon colours on every fresh run. The genre's oldest lesson still rules here: gold spent on geometry beats gold spent on volume.

Bloons Tower Defense questions and answers

Why can't I place a tower where I tapped?

Towers need clear grass: not on the path, not overlapping another tower, not off the map edge. A rejected tap plays a soft error sound.

What do the balloon colors mean?

Toughness. Red takes one hit, blue two, green three, and so on up to six-layer monsters. Each layer popped pays cash and points.

How does the frost tower help if it deals no damage?

It slows every balloon in radius by more than half, which multiplies the shots your dart and bomb towers land. Late-game defenses collapse without it.

Is there a final wave?

No. Waves scale forever, so every run eventually falls. The score measures how far your architecture held, so the wave you reached last time is the number to beat.

Do I earn money between waves?

Yes: every pop pays, and each cleared wave adds a bonus that grows with the wave number. Spending it promptly is almost always right.
