How to play Temple Run 2

  1. Turn at the corners, step between them

Left and right turn you when the corner cue is showing and step you across the path at any other time. A fork takes either direction. Missing a corner means a long fall.

  2. Jump and slide as the path asks

Up, tap or swipe up jumps logs and gaps; down slides under branches and fire, or drops you out of a jump early. Idols and boulders are passed by stepping to the open side.

  3. Ride the mine carts

On rails you sit in a cart and there are two tracks. Press left or right to lean onto the other track when a barrier marks yours as broken, and press down to duck under the wooden beams.

  4. Hang on to the zip line

A zip line carries you over a chasm on its own. You cannot jump or slide; steer nothing and collect the coins hanging in the air, then land running.

  5. Swerve down the water slides

A slide chute is fast and low. Step left or right to avoid the rocks in the channel, follow the coins in the free lane and be ready to run when it ends.

Mine carts, zip lines and slides each ask for a different move. Temple Run keeps the path flat and the monkeys plural, so you can practise the corners and hazards without the section changes.

What Temple Run 2 is like to play

Temple Run 2 game artwork
Temple Run 2 on Free Games. Sky ruins, mine carts, zip lines and one very large ape.

Temple Run 2 takes the turning temple path of Temple Run and lifts it into the clouds. The ruins now sit on cliffs above a bottomless drop, the walkways rise and fall so a corner can hide behind a crest, and between the running sections the path changes shape. A mine-cart section puts you on twin rails: lean left or right to stay on the unbroken track and duck the beams. A zip line carries you across a chasm with a line of coins in the air. A water slide drops you down a chute at speed, with rocks to swerve and coins in the free channel. The running sections keep everything from the first game - Corners to call, logs and gaps to jump, branches and fire to slide under, idols and boulders to step around - and the chaser is now a single enormous ape that closes in when you stumble. Coins come in three values as you go deeper, power-ups add a magnet, a shield, a boost and double score, and every restart builds a new route. Your longest run is saved in this browser.

Where Temple Run 2 came from

Temple Run 2 arrived in January 2013, sixteen months after the original, and became the fastest-spreading mobile game of its time: twenty million downloads in four days, fifty million in thirteen. Imangi Studios kept the four inputs and changed everything under the runner's feet, moving the temple to ruins in the sky and adding mine carts, zip lines, sloping paths and a single giant demon monkey.

The trick was variety without new controls. A mine cart turned left and right into a lean, a zip line turned the sprint into a moment of rest, and a slope hid the next corner until the last second. Players who knew the first game could play at once and still had to learn.

Temple Run 2 follows that recipe in a full 3D browser build: running sections with corners and hazards, mine-cart rails with forks and beams, zip lines over the chasm, water slides with rocks, three coin values and one very large ape, laid out fresh on every restart.

Ways people play Temple Run 2

Temple Run 2 rules
The 2013 sequel: sky ruins, mine carts, zip lines, sloping paths and a single giant ape instead of the monkey pack.
Temple Run rules
The 2011 original kept the path flat and the chasers plural. Our Temple Run follows that version.
Licensed spin-offs
Temple Run: Brave and Temple Run: Oz dressed the same corners and slides in film themes without changing a rule.
Straight-track runners
Subway Surfers and its followers removed the corners and moved the whole challenge into three strict lanes.

Temple Run 2 questions and answers

What is new compared with Temple Run?

Sloping paths, mine-cart sections with forked tracks and beams, zip lines across the chasms, water-slide chutes with rocks, one giant ape as the chaser, and a brighter set of sky-ruin zones.

How do the mine carts work?

You sit in a cart on one of two tracks. A red barrier sign marks a track that is about to break: press left or right to lean onto the other one. Wooden beams cross both tracks and must be ducked with down.

Can I fall off the zip line?

No. The zip line is a safe stretch that moves you across the gap; only the coins are up for grabs. You land running on the far side.

What happens on the water slide?

You slide seated at higher speed. Rocks sit in one channel at a time; step left or right to avoid them and follow the coins in the open channel. Jumping is not available on the slide.

What do the coin colours mean?

Yellow coins are worth one, red coins two and blue coins three, multiplied by your streak. Red coins start after roughly a kilometre and blue after about two and a half.

Why did the ape catch me?

A stumble lets the ape close in for a few seconds; the HUD shows the alert. A second stumble or hit in that window ends the run. Run clean and the ape drops back.

How do I play on a touchscreen?

Swipe left or right to turn, step or lean, swipe up or tap to jump, swipe down to slide or duck. On-screen buttons offer the same moves.
