Jump the cacti
Press Space, the up arrow, or tap the screen to leap. Cacti come alone, in pairs, and in nasty clusters - Clear the whole group or the run ends on a needle.
Duck under the birds
Hold the down arrow, or swipe down on mobile, to crouch as you run. Birds glide in at different heights: duck the low ones, jump the grounded ones, and ignore the ones sailing overhead.
Read the horizon early
Every obstacle enters from the right edge. Your dino never moves from the left third of the screen, so all the useful information lives ahead of you, not under your feet.
Keep pace with the speed-up
The desert scrolls a little faster every few seconds. Obstacles do not change, but the time you get to react to them shrinks for the entire run.
Survive the night flip
At score milestones the scene inverts from day to night and back. Same desert, same shapes, opposite colors - The flip costs unprepared eyes about one cactus worth of attention.

Where Dinosaur Game came from
In 2014, Chrome designers and engineers - Sebastien Gabriel on design, with Edward Jung and Alan Bettes on the build - Hid a tiny runner inside Chrome's 'no internet' error page. The project was nicknamed Project Bolan, after Marc Bolan of the band T. Rex, and the dinosaur itself was a joke: no connection meant you were living in the digital stone age, so you might as well be a T-Rex.
The hidden game became one of the most-played titles on Earth almost by accident. Pterodactyls, ducking, and the day-night flip arrived in later updates, and by 2018 Google said the dino was being played about 270 million times every month. The team even capped the score at 99,999 - And joked that reaching it would take roughly 17 million years, about as long as the real T-Rex roamed the planet.
The lovely irony is that a game invented to celebrate being offline became a game people go online to play on purpose. Dinosaur Game brings the runner to a page you actually meant to visit - Same two moves, same creeping speed, same palette flip - And adds what an error page never could: a fresh desert on every restart and a saved best distance to run at.
