How to play Mini Putt
Drag back to aim
Click or touch near the ball and pull away from your target. The guide line shows the direction the ball will travel, and the farther you drag, the harder the putt.
Release to strike
Let go to hit the ball. Power and aim lock in the moment you release, so settle the line first - There are no do-overs once the ball is rolling.
Use the walls
Every rail is live. A putt banked off a wall keeps most of its pace, and several holes are built so the bounce is the fastest route to the cup.
Time the windmill, skip the sand
The windmill blades sweep past the gap on a fixed rhythm, so release just as a blade clears. Sand drags the ball to a crawl - Route around it whenever the hole allows.
Beat par across nine holes
Each hole has a par, and your total strokes over all nine holes is your score. Lower is better, so a bad hole early can still be rescued by a clean finish.
This independent browser adaptation uses the original game’s established title. It is not an official publisher release or an original ROM. Its artwork, tuning and controls may differ from other games with similar rules. Guest personal bests stay in this browser. Signed-in players can also save scores and play history to their private dashboard; there is no global leaderboard. Read about controls and local storage.
Choose a related challenge
A useful putt balances direction with the distance you want the ball to travel. Skee-Ball also involves aiming a ball, but the scoring rings reward a different landing target.
What Mini Putt is like to play

Mini Putt is the boardwalk classic where geometry beats muscle: nine handcrafted holes, one ball, and walls that punish sloppy angles. Drag back from the ball to set your line and power, release, and let physics do the rest - Off the rails, around the dogleg, past the windmill blade that is always exactly where your ball wants to go. Sand kills your roll, banks reward brave angles, and every hole carries a par that quietly judges you. Our version keeps the strokes honest with crisp drag-and-release putting that works the same with a mouse or a fingertip, and it totals your score against par across all nine greens. The nine holes never move, so once you have a favourite line for each one, a full round is a straight test of whether your putter has improved since the last.

Where Mini Putt came from
Miniature golf has a birth certificate: Thistle Dhu, the course James Barber built at his Pinehurst, North Carolina home in 1916 - The name is a wry "this'll do." A first craze swept America in the 1920s, then faded, and the 1950s brought the boom that stuck: Don Clayton founded Putt-Putt Golf in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1954, while roadside courses across the country embraced windmills, castles, and loop-the-loops as the family night out.
The game jumped to computers a generation later. Will Harvey's Zany Golf, published by Electronic Arts in 1988, turned minigolf surreal with holes like its famous bouncing hamburger, and Sierra's 3-D Ultra Minigolf series in the late 1990s packed greens with gadgets and moving contraptions. Digital minigolf proved the formula needed no grass at all - Just angles, obstacles, and a cup that looks closer than it plays.
Today minigolf lives happily in the browser, where a drag and a release replace the rental putter. The version you are playing distills a century of course design - Banks, sand, and one smug windmill - Into nine holes you can replay anywhere, and a stroke total that tells you plainly whether your putter has improved since the last round.
Ways people play Mini Putt
- Putt-Putt rules
- Don Clayton's 1954 chain stripped out the gimmicks entirely: flat, skill-only holes where every one can be aced. It grew into a televised professional sport with serious prize money.
- Adventure golf
- The theme-park cousin - Pirate ships, waterfalls, and jungle caves over longer, contoured holes that play closer to real greens than to carnival obstacles.
- Crazy golf
- The British seaside strain, obstacle-first and proud of it. Its spiritual home is Hastings, which hosts world championship crazy golf on the seafront.
- Video minigolf
- From Zany Golf's magic-realist holes to modern online party putters, digital courses ditch physics-safe design and let holes do things no real course could.
Mini Putt questions and answers
How is Mini Putt scored?
You count strokes. Every hole has a par, and your final score is your total strokes across all nine holes - The lower the number, the better the round.
What does the windmill do?
Its blades sweep across the only gap in the wall on a steady rhythm. Hit a blade and your ball bounces straight back, so the hole is really a timing puzzle wearing a golf costume.
What happens if my ball lands in sand?
Sand drains the ball's speed almost instantly. You can putt out of it, but expect to use extra power - The smarter play is usually a line that avoids the trap entirely.
Can I bounce the ball off the walls?
Yes, and you should. Walls return the ball at a mirrored angle with most of its speed, and several holes are designed around a confident bank shot.
What counts as a good score?
Finishing the nine holes at or under the course par is a solid round. The best rounds are built from holes-in-one, and every hole here has at least one ace line to find.
Do the holes change between rounds?
No. All nine layouts are handcrafted and identical every round, right down to the windmill's timing - Which is what makes two of your own stroke totals worth comparing.
Can I play Mini Putt on my phone?
Absolutely. Touch the screen, drag back to aim and set power, and lift your finger to putt. The drag works exactly like the mouse control on desktop.
Is Mini Putt free to play?
Completely free, right in your browser. There is no download, no install, and no signup needed to play - Just open the game and take your first putt.
